Assumed to be known as toppers, though you don’t need to be one yourself to be successful. Work on these top 10 habits and you too will be well on your way to success. And the best part is it’s all a matter of studying smarter than harder.

1. Has a Good Plan

You may have planned what degree and subjects you’ll need to take on. But have you considered how your day, weeks, months, semesters will go by? Successful students understand the workload required not only of when classes need to be attended but also, homework and amount of study required. By sitting down and writing down a plan, starting with a wall calendar, you can see daily and major events of the future. Note it down  in a portable dairy (including a copy on your mobile) too and you’ll never miss out on a due date for an assignment and sitting your exams. But wait there’s more 🙂 , it’s useful because you can spread out your study and free time evenly so that you are not found cramming a whole years worth of notes in one night.

2. Always Has Everything Organized

Ok so you have planned you time well but you’ll have a better chance at success if you are well organized too. Make a special spot for all your college-related stuff – also known as a study desk 🙂 . Make sure your furniture is apt so that you have plenty of space to sit down and spread your study material out. Your chair is ergonomic so you don’t have annoying back or neck pain. You have enough shelves and folders to hold and separate books and papers comfortably. And you have stationary that makes life all that easier, highlighters, Post-Its, paper clip, red pen, blue pen, black pen… you got the idea 🙂 . And it really is that life will be easier when things are organized you can find things and get on with it than being lost in a scattered pile of mess.

3. Is Not (Too) Distracted

We need to accept it social media, gadgets, movies, and friends are a part of our lives. They keep us in touch with the now and relive us from the stresses of life. However, successful college students do not let these activities run their lives. There is a time and place for such things which you too will need to make for if you want to stay ahead of the game of ‘success’. And to make sure you do stick to it dedicate sufficient time for study and most importantly be consistent about it. Procrastination is really a life sucker.

4. Take Comprehendible Study Notes

Comprehendible study notes is really a fine art to be learned. Leave behind your bland  and old-school sentence-for-sentence noting taking and be dazzled by your new notes that consist of an array of colorful pens and font sizes. Why? Because when you come back to them at a later date your eyes and brain will be at ease. Your notes will become a delight to read 😛  as the bold heading and quick bullet point notes are easy to follow without wondering what the heck you had written. And the flow on effect – your chances of understanding the topic and memorizing definitions and so forth will be increased.

5. Cope with Exam Anxiety

If exams make you want to run the other way it’s a tell-tale sign of anxiety. And for those who don’t worry themselves sick have a better chance at performing well on these big days, time and time again. It’s as plain as that. Though knowing how to manage these feelings can be quite tough no matter how well prepared you have been. Successful students cope well because they know what to do when their body and mind reacts otherwise.

6. Deal with Pressure

Pressure comes from all corners of the universe, from our parents expectations to what our teachers think of us, how well we fit in with our friends and what we think and tell ourselves. Life is very much demanding.  Though there always a way to deal with it 🙂 . Successful students accept that they have no control over what others can think about them. But most importantly know how to stop such pressures getting to them. And that why you see how well they arise to any occasion.

7. Maintains their Health

Just because you are busy with the amount of study you need to do it shouldn’t be an excuse to let other aspects of your life take a back seat. Look after your health as much as your studies and you’ll notice how your overall well-being will benefit too. You’ll be capable of concentrating and focusing for longer hours (much needed in 1-3-hour classes). This also goes for exercise for the fact it helps increases blood circulation and strength, drink water for detoxification, sleep well for rejuvenation and eat healthy for alertness.

8. Interacts with Faculty

You’ll need to break out of your shell for this one. Interact with the faculty, when in class try to ask questions during the session or if it seems more appropriate meet the professor at the start or end of class. Also, think of other faculties who you could meet with, it can include your head of department to further discuss topics or your overall degree in depth.

Furthermore, find out what resources are available in your campus and make an appointment with all of them at least once during your year of study. Check out the librarian, study skill tutors, counselors, career advisors and head of hostels. They all could provide some valuable advice a that you would otherwise not obtain.

9. Builds a CV/Resume

While we are taking advantage of all your resource, participate in as many activities and events that are relevant to your degree as possible. Look over your college calendar and notice boards for workshops and summer programs. Sit in conferences and maybe (and once familiar with the procedure) in a year or two you could also actively participate in them. And join clubs (if applicable) to further your own horizon and that of your professional profile.

10. Hangs out with the Right Crowd

And finally successful students have a great friends circle and all for the right reasons. They not only fit in with their group of friends and share their likes and possibly hobbies. Their friends are of the good type, they have a good nature in character, know and do right from wrong. And they are likely to have well-established study habits too. They visit the library often, study often and even discuss class topics outside of school time.
